Amir Taba

Biography

Amir Taba is a German-Swedish artist of Persian heritage. Born and raised in Tehran, he studied art at the Arts & Architecture University of Tehran before his life and practice developed across Sweden, Germany, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.

Living across these different environments has shaped the way he understands identity, belonging and the relationship between the individual and the conditions surrounding them.

Taba’s work often begins with situations that appear familiar but gradually become psychologically or conceptually unstable. Characters, objects and cultural references are brought together in ways that allow different readings to coexist, leaving space between what is immediately visible and what may be understood through closer attention.

He currently lives and works in Dubai.

Practice Statement

Amir Taba’s practice examines how individuals are shaped by memory, perception and surrounding conditions. His works often develop through constructed situations in which familiar objects, cultural references and characters enter relationships that are not entirely resolved.

Identity appears not as a fixed condition, but as something continually negotiated through inheritance, adaptation, responsibility, expectation and desire. Taba is particularly interested in moments when intention and outcome begin to diverge, when what someone imagined becoming encounters the conditions that determine what becomes possible.

Transformation within the work is therefore rarely presented as resolution. It more often remains a state of tension between what is chosen and what is inherited, between how one understands oneself and how one is perceived, and between the expectations placed upon an individual and the ways they adapt to them.
